Audio-Technica VM520xEB/H — Elliptical dual moving magnet cartridge on AT-LT10 headshell

The VM520xEB/H pairs the VM520xEB generator with the AT-LT10 headshell, so it arrives aligned, wired and ready to fit. It is the practical answer for a second arm, a turntable with a removable headshell or a quick swap between an LP cartridge and a 78 rpm one.

Inside is a dual moving magnet generator with a bonded 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical stylus on an aluminium tubular cantilever. The declared figures are 20 Hz-20 kHz, 24 dB channel separation, 5.0 mV output, 3.2 kΩ coil impedance, 750 Ω DC resistance, 480 mH inductance and 1.5 dB channel balance, with a 47 kΩ / 150-250 pF load and a vertical tracking angle of 20°.

Those 5.0 mV are generous for any moving magnet phono stage and for DJ mixers, which leaves headroom in the preamp and keeps the noise floor low. The 18.3 g assembly tracks between 1.8 and 2.2 g, and the stylus is replaced with an AT-VMN20xEB, so the same body can later take a finer profile from the AT-VMx range.
