Dual moving magnet cartridge with a nude 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical stylus, pre-mounted on the AT-HS6BK aluminium headshell. A 15.5 g assembly ready to bolt onto the tonearm.
The AT-VM95EN/H is the nude elliptical version of Audio-Technica's VM95 series, supplied already mounted on the AT-HS6BK headshell. It arrives aligned and with the four leads connected, so replacing a worn cartridge comes down to bolting the assembly onto the tonearm and setting the tracking force. For anyone moving up from a conical stylus the difference shows most on demanding grooves: the nude tip, without the blob of adhesive that surrounds the diamond on budget styli, tracks the modulation more precisely and leaves less surface noise.
The generator is a dual moving magnet design with a 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical stylus on a nude round shank and an aluminium tubular cantilever. It is rated at 20 Hz-23 kHz, 3.5 mV output at 1 kHz and 5 cm/s, 3.3 kΩ coil impedance, 550 mH inductance, 22 dB channel separation and 2.0 dB channel balance. It suits any moving magnet phono stage at 47 kΩ and 100-200 pF, and the recommended tracking force runs from 1.8 to 2.2 g, with 2.0 g as the reference point.
The complete assembly weighs 15.5 g, a figure that sits comfortably on medium-mass arms and keeps the counterweight near its usual position. The body is shared across the whole VM95 family, so when the tip wears out you simply fit an AT-VMN95EN stylus, or take the chance to move up to Microlinear or Shibata without changing the cartridge. Every unit is assembled and tested at the Audio-Technica factory in Fukui, Japan.
