The ATH-AD2000X is Audio-Technica's reference open-back headphone within the 53 mm family. Its driver, based on CCAW voice coils, is intended to reproduce classical material and audiophile recordings with resolution: response reaches 45 kHz and sensitivity rises to 103 dB/mW, so detail appears without pushing the volume.
The aluminium honeycomb housing keeps weight down and lets the driver work without internal pressure, which translates into a wide stage and very clear separation between instruments. With 40 ohms impedance and 2,000 mW admissible power, it accepts serious headphone amplifiers as well as good-quality domestic sources, provided they can supply current.
The two-part headband with self-adjusting wings applies very little pressure and does not load the top of the head: one of those designs you forget about after ten minutes. At 265 grams, with velvet earpads and a 3 metre cable with gold-plated 3.5 mm mini-jack and 6.3 mm adapter, it is built for long, attentive sessions.
