The ATH-AVA400 is the open-back option in Audio-Technica's SonicPro range, aimed at people who work or listen at home and want a wide image without giving up comfort. The grille housing lets the driver breathe, so sound expands instead of staying trapped in the cup: the result is a broader stage and a less enclosed feel over long sessions.
The driver is 40 mm, with 35 ohms impedance and 93 dB/mW sensitivity, figures that put it within reach of an audio interface, a laptop or a portable player without dedicated amplification. Response covers 18 Hz to 25 kHz, with bass that extends easily and clear midrange, well suited to checking mixes, listening to demos or simply enjoying a music library.
The fixed 3 metre cable ends in a gold-plated 3.5 mm mini-jack and includes a detachable 6.3 mm adapter, so it moves from computer to room system without fuss. The double-arc headband with self-adjusting wings spreads pressure and the velvet earpads keep things comfortable, at 240 grams without the cable.
