Perforated-steel pop filter that fits on the front of the microphone and tames plosives without dulling the voice. For AT2020, AT2020USB+, AT2020USB-X, AT2035 and AT2050.
The AT8175 is a pop filter made of perforated steel mesh that fits on the front of the microphone. Its job is to stop the blasts of air from bilabial consonants and hard 't' sounds — the ones that make the diaphragm jump — without closing off the voice.
The metal mesh lets speech through clearly while breaking up the air stream before it reaches the capsule. The practical result is a recording with fewer low-frequency thumps and less need to fix them afterwards with equalisation or a high-pass filter.
It is designed for Audio-Technica's 20 Series vocal microphones: AT2020, AT2020USB+, AT2020USB-X, AT2035 and AT2050. It goes on and comes off in seconds, needs no tools and is as useful in a studio as it is for podcasting or streaming.
