KEF LS50 Meta (pair)

The LS50 Meta is KEF's reference bookshelf monitor: a two-way passive loudspeaker, direct heir to the legendary LS3/5a, now built around the brand's most advanced technology. Its compact size goes hand in hand with a surprising sense of scale, and it throws a precise stereo image that holds up anywhere in the room.

At its heart is a 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, with the vented aluminium dome tweeter placed at the acoustic centre of the 5.25-inch aluminium cone. Because both drivers radiate from the same point, sound reaches the listener as a single source and the sweet spot widens considerably. MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology) adds a maze of channels that absorbs the residual energy the tweeter sends back into the cabinet, for a cleaner top end with less colouration.

The curved-baffle cabinet with damped walls is tuned for firm bass without a subwoofer. It is just as convincing with music as it is inside a home cinema system, and it accepts amplifiers from 25 W thanks to its 85 dB sensitivity and 8-ohm impedance.
